Binay Bohra is one of the most influential pioneers of the internet in Nepal. He is the founder and owner of Vianet Communications, the company that famously broke the market monopoly in 2011 by being the first to introduce Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology to the general public.

Background: A Computer Engineer (Bangalore University, 1995), he was inspired by his father’s work in telecommunications. He spent his early career at Mercantile Communications before founding Vianet in 1999.

Inspired by his father’s significant contributions to the telecommunications sector, Mr. Bohra pursued a degree in Computer Engineering from Bangalore University, graduating in 1995.
Early Career: Upon returning to Nepal in 1996, he joined Mercantile Communications, where he witnessed the earliest days of the internet in the country.
The Birth of Vianet: Driven by a vision that offices and homes would soon require more than the slow, expensive dial-up and leased lines available at the time, he and his friends co-founded Vianet Communications in 1999.
Pioneering FTTH: In 2011, Mr. Bohra led the team that introduced Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology to Nepal for the first time. This move revolutionized how Nepalese households experienced connectivity, shifting the standard from kilobits to megabits.
Evolution to Multi-Gig: Under his guidance, Vianet has continued to innovate, recently launching XGS-PON technology, capable of delivering symmetrical speeds up to 10 Gbps.
